About

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog. I will be writing this blog for my Online & Mobile Media (MDIA5003) subject as part of my masters in Journalism and Communications.

Firstly I’d just like to tell you a little bit about myself my name is Jamie, or my friends call me Appsy. I’m a massive sports fanatic it is essentially all I watch on television, if it’s on live I’m probably watching it. So it will probably be safe to assume most of my posts will attempt to relate our readings for the week back to some sports related news event.

A little background knowledge on what this subject and blog will be talking about is probably useful for anybody reading this now. This subject aims to develop an understanding of the evolving media landscape & its relationship with mainstream journalism. This is done through a focus on how new technologies, genres and audiences are affecting the media landscape. Over the course of the 11 weeks we will be discussing the following topics:

  1. Digital Culture & The Role of Audiences
  2. Social Media & Citizen Journalism
  3. The Blogosphere
  4. Online Newspapers
  5. The Twittersphere, Microblogging & Elections
  6. Mobile Phone Cultures & The Reporting of Crises & Disasters
  7. Social & Political Uses of Youtube & Facebook
  8. The Journalists Job in a Digital Era
  9. Ethics & Trust
  10. Acces & The Digital Divide
  11. The Online Newsroom

I look forward to hearing the opinions of my readers either in the comments sections on the blogs or you can reach me on twitter @Appsy88

UPDATE 12/4/13

I have just added a new page to the blog that will cover any sports media issues I write about, especially in regards to my Sports Media & Journalism Course for University.
